Little Rock in the Fall

With next year’s Annual Meeting hosted in Little Rock, Arkansas, we wanted to get the lowdown on what you can expect from a visit to Natural State. And as it turns out, whether you’re into having a great meal or trekking the great outdoors, there may be no better time to visit Little Rock than the fall.

Trails (jogging)

It's not a secret: Little Rock is a city best experienced by getting outside and exploring its natural environment. From its 60+ city parks to the towering heights of one of Arkansas's most visited state park, take some time during your visit to stretch your legs and expand your horizons on the city's best trails.

Murals

No one gallery can contain Little Rock’s thriving arts scene, so it’s only natural that it spread onto walls and doors throughout the city. Little Rock’s public art collection is well worth exploring, from larger-than-life critters and inspirational abstracts to artistic robots and dancing produce. Almost 20 murals dot downtown, and this self-guided tour will help you find them.

Cycling

Little Rock is a cycling city for every season. Rain or shine, sun or snow (just kidding, we almost never get snow), there are hundreds of miles of trails just waiting to be explored. From heart-pounding downhills and state-of-the-art freerides, to scenic routes that span from the delta to the mountains, there’s a course for every rider here. Whether you’re bringing your bike or you just want to rent one when you get here, these are six of favorite local bike trails for beginners.

Little Rock Nine

In the fall of 1957, Little Rock became a civil rights battleground when the governor questioned the authority of the United States Supreme Court's desegregation ruling while nine Black high school students sought an education at the all-white Little Rock Central High School. Today, the Little Rock Nine are revered as civil rights pioneers and activists. Their story is interpreted at the Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site. You can walk the halls of Central High School, tour the rooms of the Daisy Bates house where the students planned out their journey, and even sit in the very same booths at the Lassis Inn where the students came to relax.

Central High

In September 1957, Little Rock Central High School was at the center of international attention when Governor Orval E. Faubus ordered the Arkansas National Guard to prevent nine Black students from attending the all-white school. President Dwight D. Eisenhower later federalized the National Guard and sent in federal troops to escort the students to class. The school became a crucial battleground in the struggle for civil rights. Dramatic media images of the conflict seared themselves into public memory. The Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site and Visitor Center opened in September 2007 to mark the 50th anniversary of the school's desegregation. The interactive displays include interviews with the Little Rock Nine and historic video clips. Clinton Presidential Center

The Presidential library of Bill Clinton resides within the William J. Clinton Presidential Center and Park. The 30-acre campus includes the Clinton Presidential Library, the offices of the Clinton Foundation, the University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service, and the full-service restaurant 42 bar and table. The library features exhibits that chronicle Bill Clinton's presidency, focusing on expanding civil rights to peoples around the world. River Market

Located just steps from the Statehouse Convention Center, the River Market Entertainment District is where Little Rock comes to let loose. District guests aged 21 and older can carry alcoholic beverages outside of participating bars and restaurants and onto sidewalks and inside nearby shops. Full of chic restaurants, lively hotspots, and even a few local honky-tonks, it's the perfect place to relax after a productive day of meetings.
